Abstract:
In the era of globalization and technological advancement, transportation networks are vital for urban and regional development, influencing economic growth, social dynamics, and environmental sustainability. Particularly in the United States, where the automobile dominates, the East Coast stands as a globally significant economic zone. The evolution of transportation networks is critical in shaping the region’s socio-economic fabric. This study investigates the spatial effects of transportation network evolution on the U.S. East Coast, focusing on its impacts on spatial structure, economic development, and environmental sustainability. It evaluates the historical and current patterns of transportation development, the facilitation of urban functionality and resource distribution, and the interplay with environmental sustainability. Utilizing a comprehensive approach that includes field research, GIS and complex network analysis, and systemic dynamics, the research aims to uncover the nuanced spatial effects of transportation evolution and develop strategies for sustainable regional growth. The outcomes are designed to guide policy decisions and offer insights for regional integration and sustainability.
