On October 26, 2023, the China Urban Research Center (PCC) organized a special cultural trip, leading its scholars to visit the historic town of Hillsborough in North Carolina, where they jointly experienced the local Halloween and Day of the Dead celebrations. This activity aimed to enhance the members’ understanding and experience of American local culture, promoting cultural exchange between China and the United States. Through this immersive experience, the scholars from PCC were able to gain a deeper appreciation of the diversity and inclusivity of American society.

Hillsborough, known for its rich history and well-preserved historical relics, provided a unique cultural experience for the scholars from the China Urban Research Center. During the visit, the scholars not only toured the town’s historical landmarks but also participated in the local community’s Halloween and Day of the Dead celebrations.

As one of America’s most popular festivals, the Halloween celebration includes ornately decorated pumpkins, creatively costumed participants, and various themed activities. The Day of the Dead, on the other hand, is a commemoration and celebration of deceased loved ones, showcasing deep cultural traditions and respect for life. Through these activities, the scholars enjoyed the festive atmosphere and gained insights into the history and traditions of American culture.

The China Urban Research Center has always been committed to promoting cultural and academic exchanges between China and the United States and believes that this trip to Hillsborough’s historic town will bring lasting memories and inspiration to its members.
